Our story

Atelier Rosaline is a young company. We are not going to open this page with a workshop our great-grandmother founded in 1890, because there wasn't one.

This started with a drawer. Chains knotted into each other, one earring of a pair, a watch face scratched by the bracelet it had been lying against for a year. The jewellery mattered. The thing meant to hold it did not — everything on the market was either a padded box from a supermarket shelf or a piece of furniture costing more than what went inside it.

So we went looking for the middle of that gap. Solid walnut, cherry, rosewood and padauk rather than printed board. Proper linings rather than flocked card. Trays that lift out, locks that turn, hinges that sit flush.

Good to know

Solid wood is not uniform. Grain, knots and colour vary from piece to piece, and the box that arrives will not be an exact match for the one on your screen. We would rather say that here than have you discover it.

On the name

Rosaline is a bobbin lace, worked thread by thread on a pillow. It appealed for the same reason these boxes do: something small, made slowly, meant to outlast whoever made it. Atelier is simply the French for workshop.
