The lid is cut with a rippled surface and a raised rim, so once it is off the box it works as a shallow tray instead of something you have to find a home for. Solid cherry, finger-jointed at the corners, finished in wax oil rather than lacquer.
Made for
- Tea tools — scoop, tongs, a strainer — standing upright in the tall square version
- Pens, brushes and a rule in the long rectangular one
- Rings and a watch parked in the lid overnight
- Stationery and cables kept off the desk surface
